The definition of “hosting” doesn't describe only one service, but several services which offer different functions to a domain address. Having a website and e-mails, as an example, are two independent services despite the fact that in the general case they come together, so many people consider them as one single service. In reality, every single domain name has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each particular service - the former is a numeric IP address, which specifies where the site for the domain name is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain. As an example, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain address has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the browser request or the email will then be sent to the correct server. The concept behind using separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you could have your site hosted by one provider and the e-mails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting account with our company and you would like to direct either your site or your e-mails to an alternative service provider, it will take you literally just two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the default 2, it is not going to take more than a couple of clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of any record that you modify or create won't take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers we offer, you are going to have complete control over the records of all domains and subdomains that you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records every one of them has via the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and changing any record takes just a couple of mouse clicks. If you want to change your web or email hosting provider, you can change the required record and point your domain name to the other company for one of the services, as you still keep using the other one through us. Also you can keep the main domain name here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. In case you are modifying the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default two that we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for each one.
